The area around Kelly/Shorts Stadium fills with tailgates starting 3–5 hours before kickoff. University-owned lots and adjacent parking areas are the most popular spots. Some fans prefer off-campus tailgate bars and restaurant patios nearby.
Mount Pleasant has a strong bar scene near the stadium on game days. Look for spots within walking distance of campus that feature game-day specials. Locals know which spots fill up first — arrive early or make reservations for big games.
Central Michigan gear is the standard. The school's colors are worn by the vast majority of fans — you'll stand out if you arrive in neutral colors. Wearing the opponent's colors in the home section is generally unwelcome.
